The thing a lot of people miss is the need to build relationships with your list rather than to just push endless products (leading to high unsubscribe rates of course!). I found Giveaways were a good source of signups initially helping me to build the list to the first hundred so that I could get to the sort of size which enables me to start with adswaps.
